Introduction: What is Glutathione?
- Brief introduction to GSH, its chemical structure, and natural presence in the human body.
- What is Glutathione?
- Glutathione (often abbreviated as GSH) is a small but powerful molecule present in nearly every cell of the human body. Composed of three amino acids—cysteine, glutamine, and glycine—it plays an essential role in maintaining cellular health. Among the many antioxidants the body produces, glutathione is often called the “master antioxidant” because of its pivotal role in reducing oxidative stress and supporting detoxification processes.
- GSH functions primarily by donating electrons to neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS), a type of unstable molecule that can damage cells if left unchecked. Its tripeptide structure allows it to carry out a range of complex biochemical processes efficiently. Because it is synthesized within the body, glutathione is one of the most important tools available to counter oxidative stress, which is associated with aging and numerous chronic diseases. click here for Podcast
